Laser assisted in situ keratomiliesis, often referred to as “LASIK,” is a surgical technique for correcting vision problems, such as myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism and other conditions. Dr. Dana L. Day and the team at Eye Institute of Wyoming, P.C. can provide the pre- and post-operative care that patients need to take advantage of this innovative technique to achieve clearer vision.
LASIK eye surgery corrects vision so that individuals no longer have to rely on eyeglasses or contact lenses for clear vision. Being able to see without glasses or lenses can make sports activities and other actions that are usually impeded by glasses or contact lenses easier and more enjoyable. LASIK eye surgery can be done quickly and produces better vision immediately. However, not every individual is a good candidate for the surgery. LASIK eye surgery reshapes the cornea of the eye, and therefore, the cornea must have sufficient thickness to allow the procedure. In addition, anyone who has an injury to the eye, an infection of the eyes or dry eye syndrome which might be made worse by the surgery, should wait until the problem is resolve before getting surgery. Other conditions, such as extremely large pupils or cataracts may also preclude getting LASIK eye surgery. Individuals who are pregnant should wait to receive the surgery because hormonal changes can affect the shape of the cornea.
The Eye Institute of Wyoming, P.C. offers evaluations to ensure that patients are able to successfully undergo LASIK eye surgery. We can also refer you to eye surgeons who have extensive experience in doing the surgery who can provide safe and successful results.
We can also provide post-operative care for individuals who have had LASIK eye surgery. Generally, appointments to examine the eye are done immediately afterward and at intervals during the first six months. A final examination is done at the one-year mark. These appointments ensure that no problem has developed and that the surgery has been successful.
